Raina threw the microscope across the laboratory, causing it to smash into pieces on the floor. “Damn it! I’ll never figure this out,” she yelled as Matt walked in the room.

“Busy?” Matt smiled his blue eyes at her.

“Um, no.” Raina ran her hands anxiously through her short, brown hair. “What?”

“You seem a little, oh, I don’t know, angry?” Matt laughed as he walked over to her. “Tell big brother what the problem is.”

She shook her head slightly and laughed. “Big brother?”

“Yeah, I’m about five minutes older than you. Remember?” Matt smiled his crooked smile.

“Oh, don’t give me those eyes. Five minutes, huh? Well, then you tell me what I’m missing here.” She threw her papers in the air.

Matt ran his hand through his thick, black hair as he watched them slowly floated to the ground. “Ray, you’re about 10 years smarter than I am. What’s going on?”

“Oh, I don’t know. I’ve been working on this for years and I still have the same results. I can reverse the effects after death, but when it comes to reversing the disease while the person is alive, I can’t do it.”

John rushed down the corridor towards the office at the end of the hallway. He knocked frantically. “Where is she? Where is she?”

Dr. Lyle opened the door. He ran his hand nervously through his black hair. “Mr. Reardon, you came so quickly.”

“Damn it, doctor. My wife has had no change in over a year and now, you just call me out of the blue. You and your damn staff wouldn’t even let us see her.”

“Please, come in. We need to talk before I let you see her.” Dr. Lyle motioned for him to enter the office. “Please sit and let me explain.”

John tightly crossed his arms as he sat in the chair. “Tell me. Why have you been keeping my wife from me and her family?”

“Agent Reardon, as you know, the loss of your children broke something in your wife.”

“I know that. Something like that would break anyone. It almost broke me.” John relaxed his body. “We lost a lot due to that bomb. I’m sorry. Please, go on. Why couldn’t we see my wife?”

“When she was first brought in, I did my homework on your wife. I know all about the things she went through and the things that she did. She’s a remarkable woman,” Dr. Lyle sighed. “I think that’s part of the reason that she faded into herself. It’s a safer place for her.”

“The FBI got a hold of her, didn’t they?”

“They sent in doctors, yes. However, there was no improvement. Your wife continued to be in her catatonic state.”

“I still don’t understand why I couldn’t see my own wife. I could help her. I could’ve brought her back,” John sighed heavily.

“The FBI, an Agent Zach Mullins, took the lead on this case.”

“I’m an Agent, too. I don’t understand why you didn’t inform me or her mother about this.”

“You’re her family. We needed someone unbiased about her condition. You and her family all see her as special, but she is an anomaly. I mean, who else can see the dead or even wake the dead.”

“That’s not super powers, those are medical powers.” John shook his head. “Why, after all this time, did you call me?”

“Your wife, out of her own will, stood up and walked over to the window. She placed her hand on the glass and whispered to herself.”

“She’s coming out?” John cried as he leaned back.

“I know about her feelings, feeling so deeply. She’s feeling something…” Dr. Lyle said. “Did something special happen in the past 24 hours?”
